Welfare policies are a priority

In recent weeks I had the opportunity to meet with representatives from several local welfare organizations present in different areas (health care, prevention, structural coordination ...). Accompanied by Mireia Rossell, the Social Welfare Councilor, all meetings are part of an action plan to follow up social issues, working together with stakeholders to design specific actions and at the same time collaborate providing all the resources that are at our disposal.

Welfare policies, now and before, are still a priority for the current Mayor's Office. During the previous term, we promoted significant initiatives in this area, such as the Blue Card for collective needs, the soup kitchen, municipalization of Joan Maragall's Senior Home or increasing financial contributions to welfare organizations. The new term that began a month ago reaffirms and expands that commitment. The pact signed with our government partners during the current term assigns more than 60% to social commitments. Welfare policies are a priority for us that become a need under the current circumstances, when many families and communities suffer the cruelest face of the crisis.

The welfare of people is the basis of our action. And that is why we initiated the current term taking a snap shot of all the policies carried out by different welfare organizations. We want to coordinate and foster their work and stress all the support they need.

The collaboration between government and stakeholders is essential. Right this week, we witnessed an action to help homeless needing urgent social support. Thanks to the collaboration of different welfare organizations, we could perform the action following the method advised by experts.

We are currently working on a plan to accommodate social welfare proposals. Such a plan will act as an agenda to strengthen the collaborative network between City Hall and welfare organizations. Welfare policies are a priority.
